Mission Hills is one of the oldest corners of the San Fernando Valley, and one of the best places to start something new. Our flight school near Mission Hills is at Van Nuys Airport (KVNY), about 4 miles south, where you can take your first discovery flight any day of the week.
Long before the Valley had freeways, it had the Mission San Fernando Rey de España, founded in 1797 and still standing on San Fernando Mission Blvd. Across the street, Brand Park and its Memory Garden draw families on weekends, and a short way south the Andrés Pico Adobe preserves another chapter of early California. Mission Hills today is a close-knit residential community where those landmarks sit beside Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, Bishop Alemany High School and quiet streets of ranch-style homes. Residents tend to have deep roots here, and for many families a pilot certificate would be a proud first.
That makes the first lesson special. Plenty of people in Mission Hills have spent years watching airplanes cross the Valley and wondering what it would take. The answer is simpler than most expect: a discovery flight, a conversation with an instructor and a plan that fits your life. Nurses and hospital staff can fit lessons around rotating shifts, high schoolers can start with our teen program, and parents can book evening lessons after the kids are in bed. We are open 9 AM to 9 PM, seven days a week.

Your discovery flight leaves Van Nuys and heads north over the Valley, where Mission Hills comes into view almost immediately. From the air you can trace the 405, the 5 and the 118 as they meet near the neighborhood, then pick out the red tile roofs of the mission and the green rectangle of Brand Park. To the northwest the Van Norman reservoir complex shines below the hills, and the San Gabriel Mountains rise behind Sylmar. It is a view most residents never see, and you will be flying the airplane yourself with your instructor beside you.
Our programs cover everything from a first certificate to an airline career. Mission Hills students train at Van Nuys Airport, with an instructor helping plan each step.
