Hollywood is where stories get told, and learning to fly is one of the best stories you can write for yourself. Our flight school near Hollywood operates from Van Nuys Airport (KVNY), about 12 miles away just over the Cahuenga Pass, with lessons available every day from 9 AM to 9 PM.
Hollywood packs an enormous amount into a small area: the Walk of Fame along Hollywood Boulevard, the clubs and studios on Sunset, the apartment blocks of Franklin Village and the hillside homes of the Hollywood Hills. It is home to actors, writers, editors, musicians, crew members and plenty of people who moved to Los Angeles chasing a dream. Many of them have looked up at the Hollywood Hills and wondered what it would be like to fly over them.
The good news is that you do not need to leave Los Angeles to find serious flight training. Van Nuys Airport sits on the other side of the Santa Monica Mountains in the San Fernando Valley, and it is one of the busiest general aviation airports in the country. As an FAA Part 61 school, we tailor training to your schedule, which is ideal for anyone working irregular hours in entertainment, hospitality or freelance creative work.
Hollywood is about 12 miles from Van Nuys Airport, with the Cahuenga Pass and the 101 connecting you directly to the Valley.
Open 9 AM to 9 PM, seven days a week. Fly on a Tuesday afternoon between gigs or on a Sunday evening after a shoot.
From the Cessna 162 Skycatcher and Piper Warrior to the Diamond DA20, Piper Arrow, Piper Seminole twin and Cirrus SR22 Turbo.
Our Redbird MCX full-motion simulator is FAA-approved, so you can rehearse procedures and log useful training time without leaving the ground.
Flying near Hollywood means sharing the sky with Burbank and LAX traffic. Learning at towered KVNY prepares you to do that safely and confidently.

Few places look better from the air than the hills above Hollywood. On a clear day the Hollywood Sign stands out on Mount Lee, with the blue water of the Hollywood Reservoir tucked into the canyon below it. Griffith Observatory sits on its ridge to the east, the bowl-shaped shell of the Hollywood Bowl nestles into the hills near the Cahuenga Pass, and the round Capitol Records Building marks the heart of the neighborhood. Beyond it all, the towers of downtown Los Angeles and the Pacific coastline stretch to the horizon. What you see on a given flight depends on the route, the weather and air traffic control, and your instructor will plan the best experience for the day.
Hollywood students range from hobbyists who want a new adventure to career changers looking for a stable, well-paid profession. Each program below explains requirements and next steps in detail.

Hollywood is about 12 miles from Van Nuys Airport. Most students take the 101 north through the Cahuenga Pass into the Valley, continue to the 405 north, and exit at Sherman Way or Roscoe Boulevard heading west to Balboa Boulevard. Our school is at 7900 Balboa Blvd, Main Terminal, Van Nuys, CA 91406. Traffic through the pass varies a lot by time of day, so many Hollywood students prefer late morning or evening lessons.

Right next door along Sunset and Santa Monica Boulevards, WeHo residents train with us too.
On the Valley side of the hills, Studio City is a natural stop between Hollywood and Van Nuys.
West of Hollywood, Beverly Hills students reach KVNY via the 405 or Coldwater Canyon.
