Westwood is home to UCLA, Westwood Village and some of the most ambitious students in Los Angeles. Our flight school near Westwood is at Van Nuys Airport (KVNY), about 11 miles north through the Sepulveda Pass, with flexible training seven days a week.
For many people, Westwood means UCLA: Royce Hall, Pauley Pavilion and thousands of students moving between classes and apartments along Gayley and Landfair. It also means the high-rise condos lining Wilshire Boulevard, the movie palaces and restaurants of Westwood Village, and quiet residential streets filled with faculty, medical professionals and families. It is a neighborhood of planners and achievers, and many of them have thought about learning to fly.
Van Nuys Airport is a direct shot up the 405 through the Sepulveda Pass, which makes it the practical choice for Westwood residents. As an FAA Part 61 school, we schedule training around quarters, finals, research hours and clinical shifts. Whether you want a private pilot certificate before graduation or are considering an aviation career instead of a desk job, we can build a plan that fits.

Our Airline Pilot Program goes from zero to airline for $84,000 (regularly $89,000, with a $5,000 promotion), a structured option for graduates considering aviation.
Stratus Financial offers terms up to 15 years, and we offer in-house plans to help students manage training costs.
Flying south from the Valley, the Sepulveda Pass opens up beneath you with the 405 snaking through the hills. Perched on its hilltop beside the freeway, the white travertine buildings of the Getty Center are unmistakable. Beyond the pass, the UCLA campus spreads across Westwood with its brick buildings and athletic fields, while the Wilshire corridor's tall towers line up toward Century City. On a clear day you can follow the coastline from Santa Monica toward Palos Verdes. Your route always depends on weather and air traffic control, and your instructor will plan the best flight for the day.
Westwood students tend to think long-term. Each program builds on the last, and many students start with a private pilot certificate and keep going all the way to instructor or airline jobs.

Westwood is about 11 miles from Van Nuys Airport. Take the 405 north through the Sepulveda Pass into the San Fernando Valley, exit at Sherman Way or Roscoe Boulevard, and head west to Balboa Boulevard. Our school is at 7900 Balboa Blvd, Main Terminal, Van Nuys, CA 91406. The 405 can be heavy at peak hours, so many Westwood students book midday or evening lessons.
